Album: Still Learning by the Lonesome River Band

LRB is on top with their last album reaching #1 on numerous charts and #1 on the Bluegrass Unlimited Album Chart for 3 months and their #1 single for 2 months. Still Learning is LRB’s 13th album and Brandon Rickman’s song “I’m Still Learning” explains the meaning behind the title; “Learning something new everyday and seeing things a whole new way has been the creative path and our attitude ever since the five of us got together.” Still Learning will keep LRB on top with their single “Record Time Machine” receiving rave reviews; Kyle Cantrell, SiriusXM-”Man, I love it! It’s a HIT!

Album: Chicken & Egg by Tim O’Brien

The thirteenth solo album from Grammy-winner Tim O’Brien mixes originals, collaborations, and a handful of outside compositions. The earthy wisdom of Chicken & Egg’s songs are delivered in appropriately spontaneous fashion, largely recorded live in the studio with a core group of collaborators. O’Brien says, “It was time to make a more acoustic record – more along the lines of a bluegrass thing, with an ensemble and not a lot of production: something pretty down-home, featuring a more consistent band.” Most recently, O’Brien has been performing before capacity crowds in the band of Mark Knopfler, who described him as “a master of American folk music, Irish music, Scottish music – it doesn’t matter; a fine songwriter and one of my favorite singers.”

Album: Bloodline By the Darrell Webb Band

DARRELL WEBB has been an integral part of the Lonesome River Band (at age 19), J.D. Crowe & The New South, Rhonda Vincent and The Rage and Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper over the past 20 years. “BLOODLINE” is the next step in DARRELL WEBB’S successful career. Bluegrass fans are very familiar with his superior tenor vocals and master mandolin ability and have been wondering when he would put his own group together. The wait is over!

GracieThon: A benefit for Gracie Muldoon

We received the following from World Wide Bluegrass regarding Gracie Muldon, known by many bluegrass fans.

GracieThon

Sunday, July 18, 2010, 9:00am – Midnight (EST)
Online at www.WorldwideBluegrass.com

WorldwideBluegrass.com founder and DJ, Gracie Muldoon, suffered a stroke on June 3rd.  Gracie credits her 14 year old son, Cody, with saving her life.  Because of severe vertigo, she has not been able to return to work. And, because of the timing of the stroke and her new job, her insurance was not yet effective. To help offset her medical expenses and to aid her financially until she can
return to work, the WWB is hosting an all-day GracieThon on July 18th from 9:00 a.m. – midnight (EST), on WorldwideBluegrass.com.

Chances are if you love bluegrass music, you know Gracie. In addition to her DJ duties, she can always be found on many social network sites promoting bluegrass music.  Please show your support for Gracie by visiting www.WorldwideBluegrass.com on July 18th.  All donations made on this day will go toward the benefit.

Make your donation either by clicking on the PayPal “Make a Donation” button on the homepage, or, you can mail a check made to World Wide Bluegrass, PO Box 54668, Cincinnati, OH 45254-0668. Please note GracieThon on your check memo line.

I Have Seen the Future of Bluegrass

And you can find it all across the country, in organizations, associations, and families, that provide opportunities for children to learn about bluegrass music, to learn an instrument, and perhaps discover something about themselves.

Here are photos of just a few of the “California” kids from the 35th Anniversary Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, California. I want to stress that is is the tip of the iceberg, as the California Bluegrass Association’s “Kids on Bluegrass” as been a part of many kid’s lives.

The Anderson Family Band continues to mature musically. Aissa (A.J.) Lee

Even at her young age, A. J. Lee has been impressing California crowds for several years. Blessed with a great voice, it continues to get better as she matures. She performs with The Tuttles and OMGG.

Here is a photo from the the Infamous Stringduster’s Friday afternoon set at The 35 Anniversary Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, California. They returned to the stage Friday evening to close out the days performances with a set that sent the fans back to their camps with a buzz you may get from a triple shot espresso.  There was a lot of jamming last night.
